Job Responsibilities
- Leads the TA Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team in the implementation of Medical Affairs (MA) strategies and tactics to enhance Boehringer Ingelheim business and commercial success in the target therapeutic area.
- Ensures role clarity, while balancing synergy with the need for functional separate from the commercial team
- Leads the MSL team in identifying and strategically building and maintaining strong and sustainable medical/scientific relationships with external experts (‘EEs’)
- Ensures one’s MSL team is able to deliver medical/scientific messages aligned to Boehringer Ingelheim China strategies for the products, that will ultimately improve clinical practice and patient care
- Leads the MSL team to achieve excellent medical/scientific customer acceptance of Boehringer Ingelheim China’s product portfolio and related educational and research services, in full compliance, exercising highest ethics and scientific rigor
- Provides inputs to customer- and patient- engagement plans and formulates overall objectives and plans for the MSL Team, in collaboration with the TA Heads and Commercial GM
- Develops and leads a best-practice MSL team, including reinforcing Boehringer Ingelheim China’s standards of excellence for hiring, field training, evaluation, motivation and disciplinary activities
- Instills a strong understanding of healthcare systems in the products and therapeutic area and clinical practices related to patient care, disease management and guidelines, treatment protocols, clinical and research interests
- Represents the TA MSL function when participating in cross-organizational projects and collaborations
- Assesses MSL performance; provides ongoing feedback and coaching for their professional development and career achievement. As part of this, provides appropriate mentoring and coaching to direct reports with respect to technical skills, business acumen/planning, and effective medical/scientific liaison role management
- Uses agreed-upon MSL-appropriate metrics to assess and track the success as a MSL team and individually
- Manages the MSL budget and administration
Job Requirements
-An advanced degree in life sciences (MD, PhD or Master's Degree)
-Required:
• 3 to 5 years' experience in a senior MSL role.
• Proven track record of strong strategic leadership, team work, innovation, project management and mentoring MSL talents.
• Excellent medical/scientific competence, interpersonal communication skills, and strong potential leadership skills as demonstrated by peer acceptance and followership.
• Successful, positive communications and interactions with healthcare professional and government agencies at all levels within the region.
• Strong analytical skills and insights.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
• Able to travel nationally, regionally and internationally.
